Mayor Joy wants intensified info drive on GAD, SOGIE

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte on Wednesday directed the Quezon City Pride Council and Gender and Development (GAD) Council to intensify the information and education campaign on the city’s Gender-Fair Ordinance and Gender and Development Code, following the detention of a transgender woman following an altercation over the use of a female wash room in a mall in Cubao.
“Malinaw na hindi sumusunod ang Farmer’s Mall sa nasabing ordinansa kung saan lahat ng government offices, private, at commercial establishments ay dapat magtalaga ng ‘All-Gender Toilets’ para sa lahat,” the mayor said.
Mayor Belmonte also directed the Business Permits and Licensing Department to roll out a plan that will ensure the compliance of business establishments to the ordinance.
Quezon City is a pioneer city in Metro Manila to push for the protection of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual, Transgender (LGBT) rights by legislating City Ordinance SP-1309 in 2003 which prohibits discrimination against homosexuals in the workplace.
“We assure the members of the LGBT+ community that Quezon City will always protect their rights and be a home for their sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression (SOGIE). We do not support any kind of violence and discrimination in our city. Sa ating LGBT+ community, protektado ang karapatan ninyo sa QC,” Mayor Belmonte added.
